My article does not properly convey that particle detection is an interactive process which will alter the state of the detected particle, but it is true that the experiment has been conducted in a variety of ways without simply shutting one slit or the other.

This is one example, but a variety of different techniques have been employed. I address some of them in a different comment on this thread.
